Die Nilgans ist ursprünglich ein Brutvogel des afrikanischen Kontinents. Die europäischen Populationen beruhen auf Freisetzungen.

Besiedelt fast jeden Gewässertyp. Fotos im städtischen Park unserer Stadt aufgenommen.Brütet auf Bäumen .

Charakteristisch sind ihre hohen Beine sowie der dunkle Augenfleck. Beide Geschlechter gleichen sich, nur ist das Männchen unwesentlich größer.

Wird das erste Gelege wegen Störungen aufgegeben oder wird es zerstört, kommt es in der Regel zu einem Nachgelege. Die Brutdauer beträgt 30 Tage.

Hauptnahrung der Nilgänse: Gräser, daneben werden Getreidefelder regelmäßig aufgesucht. Parkvögel fressen wie Stockenten auch Brot.

Es ist zu erwarten, dass Nilgänse sich noch weiter ausbreiten und irgendwann flächendeckend in den Tieflagen Deutschlands brüten werden.
